Dead-Time Control
In half-bridge/full-bridge topologies, dead time (typically 0.5~2μs) needs to be inserted during the switching of upper and lower transistors to prevent direct short circuits. Modern gate drivers can automatically insert this time.
Freewheeling Diode Cooperation
IGBT is a unidirectional device. Inductive loads (such as motors or transformers) must have fast recovery diodes (FWD) connected in parallel to provide a reverse current path.
Type Selection
Saturating Type (PT-IGBT): Suitable for DC circuits (such as DC-DC converters) with low reverse voltage withstand capability.
Non-Saturating Type (NPT-IGBT): Suitable for AC or bidirectional voltage scenarios (such as inverters) with symmetrical blocking capability.
